Current Focus

Where I Currently Work

My work tends to sit where complexity needs structure.

That currently includes strategic advisory for founders and high-complexity teams, ongoing work across software and infrastructure, and writing that connects technical practice with broader questions of systems, culture, and everyday life.

At the same time, I continue building a broader body of work: technical articles, personal writing, photographs, experiments, and a clearer public architecture for the many domains I move through.

Strategic advisory

Helping founders and teams bring structure to ambiguity, connect product and technology, and move with more clarity.

Systems and implementation

Building, refining, and understanding systems across software, infrastructure, and digital operations.

Writing and synthesis

Turning experience, observation, and technical practice into articles, notes, and structured reflections.

Exploration beyond the obvious

Photography, astronomy, making, cooking, and other domains that sharpen perception and broaden perspective.

The World Around the Work

No single page can capture a person well. What matters more is the shape of the whole.

This site is organized as a set of domains: areas of work, practice, and interest that are distinct, but deeply connected. Some are professional in a narrow sense. Others are part of the wider intellectual and personal landscape from which the professional work emerges.

Tools, Workflows & Environments · Making & Experimentation · Photography & Visual Expression · Cooking & Craft · Living Systems · Policy, Power & Geopolitics

Latest Writing

Writing is where movement becomes visible.

Some posts are technical and practical. Others are reflective, visual, or domain-specific. Taken together, they form a stream of ongoing work — not confined to a single niche, but connected by a consistent way of looking at systems, details, and the world around them.

CoreDNS at Home: Reclaiming Local DNS from pfSense CoreDNS at Home: Reclaiming Local DNS from pfSense Local DNS starts out harmless: a few host overrides here, one internal service there. But once VLANs, multiple interfaces, and a growing homelab enter the picture, those convenient little firewall UI entries turn into hidden infrastructure state. In this post, I walk through how I moved my LAN DNS from pfSense host overrides to a clean CoreDNS-based control plane — fast, deterministic, reproducible, and finally aligned with how the network actually works. AI Slop, AI Assistance, and the Way I Actually Work AI Slop, AI Assistance, and the Way I Actually Work From time to time, someone dismisses one of my posts as “AI slop.” I understand where that reflex comes from. The internet is increasingly flooded with synthetic filler, inflated claims, and content that was never truly thought through by anyone. But that is not how I work with AI. I use it much more like an editorial room, a sparring partner, and sometimes a very fast assistant: to turn my own notes, structures, experiences, and unfinished ideas into something coherent enough to publish. Taming Firefox’s places.sqlite: A Weekend Performance Breakthrough Taming Firefox’s places.sqlite: A Weekend Performance Breakthrough A bored-weekend side project turned into a tiny masterclass in database design. I rebuilt a “works-for-now” importer into a set-based, transactional loader and dropped runtime from 4 hours to under 10 seconds for 300k+ rows – on an average NVMe host with MariaDB. Same machine, same data, different architecture. Here’s the story, the thinking, and just enough code. Read

Clarity across systems

Whether I am working with software, strategy, writing, media, policy, or craft, I keep returning to the same question: what is the structure underneath the surface?

I am interested in the places where technology, people, institutions, identity, tools, and environments shape each other. The work is rarely one thing. It is usually a system of dependencies, incentives, constraints, stories, and possible futures.

This site is where those threads become visible: as essays, projects, advisory work, visual worlds, and fragments of a larger strategic practice.

Advisory

Work With Me

Part of my work is strategic advisory for founders and teams dealing with complexity — especially where strategy, systems, technology, and execution intersect.

If you arrived here in that context, the advisory page offers a more focused overview of how I work and how to get in touch.
